Stretched between Italy and Slovenia, with the possibility to quickly move towards Austria when chasing the best conditions. Julian Alps are a perfect base for an expert skier.
Suitable for a skier or a group with solid skiing and ski touring knowledge, basic use of crampons and ice axes.
We will be spending 2 days in one of the Julian Alps mountain huts. Exact places will be picked out a few days before the start depending on snow and avalanche conditions.
We will start from the basics and avalanche training skills are always a must for every backcountry user. We will work on more advanced rescue scenarios and answer the questions regarding decision making on the field while touring. During the second part of the day we will walk you through tips for steep ascent on skis, bootpacking and focus especially on use of crampons and ice axes. We will also learn how to prepare a bivy.
Before dinner at the hut, we will be learning about the use of a rope, harness, belaying/abseiling and basic use of knots.
On day 2 we will go on a tour, build a few different anchors, use a rope and learn how to abseil . This will open up possibilities to access more terrain and approach the lines we always dreamed of.
